Foul Ball is your daily baseball recap.
Video of the Day: Don't you wish every interview question was like these ones? Those silly Canadians.
7 Pirates 4 Marlins: Florida came into Pittsburgh as the hottest team, and they leave as the coldest team. The Pirates were able to sweep the Marlins behind Adam LaRoche's four hits and Adam's little brother Andy's two RBI's. The Pirates bullpen combined to go three innings giving up two hits, no runs, no walks, and four strikeouts. Just wait for ESPN to start hyping Pittsburgh as this year's Rays.
1 Giants 0 Padres in 10: Yep this is the kind of win you would expect from the Giants. They shut the other team out with their pitching, and shut themselves out with hitting. The only exception though today, was the human launching pad Barry Zito was impressive. Zito pitched seven innings allowing six hits, but he didn't allow a walk and he struck out five. Zito was able to lower his ERA from 10 to 5. Bengie Molina's pinch-hit double scored the only and winning run of the game. Now if only the Giants can win on the road. The Giants pitching staff one of the most un-believable stretch of games. The staff in total pitched three shut out games and allowed just five runs in five games.
9 Yankees 7 A's in 14: Coors Field East, err new Yankee Stadium only allowed five home runs today in 14 innings. C.C. Sabathia pitched 6 2-3 innings giving up seven runs and six hits. Melky Cabrera though ended the game in the 14Th inning with a 2-run home run. The supposedly powerful A's lineup has only hit four home runs in 14 innings. That is Giants Esq.
2 Diamondbacks 0 Rockies: Dan Haren will win this year's Matt Cain Award, for lack of run support by his team. In his first three games, Arizona only scored one run. Today they doubled that support for Haren. Danny boy pitched seven innings allowing six hits, no runs, and nine strikeouts. The Rockies in the meanwhile are just plain horrible. But at least they won the 2007 N.L. Pennant.
3 Brewers 1 Phillies: Braden Looper pitched six scoreless innings for the Brew Crew. He allowed five hits and walked two. Mike Cameron hit a two-run double and J.J. Hardy homered for the Brewers. Joe Blaton has lost two straight games for the Phillies after going unbeaten in his first 17 starts. Bob Uecker is proud.
Worst of the Night:
The Florida Marlins left six men on base, and lost by three runs.
The Padres left nine men on base in a 1-0 shutout loss to the Giants.
How's this for horrible. In Colorado's nine losses this season, the team has given up 62 runs.
The Twins let the ageless wonder Tim Wakefield completely shut them down. They only scored one run against the knuckleballer. Thankfully this game was called after seven innings due to rain.
The Yankees plan on raising premium ticket prices in 2010.
Washington Nationals pitcher Mike Hinckley walked in the winning run against the Braves. How Natinals of them.
The Twins got swept in their doubleheader versus the Red Sox. In two games they only scored four runs, while the Red Sox scored 17 runs in the two games.
The Cleveland Indians left eight men on base in their 2-0 loss to Kansas City.
Hitting into two double plays didn't help the Mets in their 5-2 loss to St. Louis.
HaHa Dodgers lost
C.J. Wilson of the Rangers allowed a game winning hit in their game against the red hot Blue Jays.
The Cubs were Dusty Baker'd in a 3-0 loss to the Reds.
Ozzie Gullien Quote: More Ozzie is always good for us. This is his reaction to White Sox fans lack of patience.
"I'm not a loser, but if people are already panicked ¿ wow, they're going to have a tough summer," Guillen said calmly Wednesday. He goes on to say, "If I talked about the e-mails I get, I shouldn't have a job," Guillen said. "I shouldn't leave my house, to be honest with you. There are some unnecessary e-mails."
He was talking about the struggles of White Sox pitcher Mike MacDougals demotion.
