Foul Ball: Remembering Jackie

Foul Ball is your daily baseball recap.

On April 15, 1947 Jackie Robinson of the Dodgers broke the color barrier. His legacy still lives on today and will live on forever. Every team and every player wore number 42 in Jackie's honor.

8 Red Sox 2 A's: Tim Wakefield's knuckleball was floating all over the place for Boston. Wakefield took a no-hitter into the eighth inning as he pitched a 4-hit complete game. Both Mike Lowell and J.D. Drew both homered for Boston. At least J.D. isn't on the D.L. If Wakefield did pitch a no-hitter, he would have been the second oldest ever only behind Nolan Ryan.

5 Rockies 2 Cubs: Jason Marquis got some sweet revenge against his former team. Marquis, who now pitches for Colorado, was not exactly a fan favorite in Chicago. And the Cubs fans let him hear it. But he got his revenge by hitting a two-run single off of Chicago starter Rich Harden. Marquis also pitched a gem of a game by only allowing one run and five hits in seven innings. I guess that dead goat hanging on the Harry Caray statue jinxed Chicago.

5 Indians 4 Royals: Cleveland avoided the sweep by the Royals. Travis Hafner's double started a three-run seventh inning for the tribe. Kyle Farnsworth gave up three runs and only managed one out in relief for the Royals. I guess that is better than getting in a fight.

4 Astros 1 Pirates: This could be another Chris Carpenter moment. As we all know Carpenter pitched for the first time in a while, and pitched a gem. Then Carpenter was promptly injured. With Mike Hampton we will see. But Hampton looked great yesterday with for the Astros. Hampton pitched six-shutout innings while only allowing 4 hits. He also struck out 8 and hasn't been placed on the D.L. yet, so he has reason to celebrate.

Worst of the Night:
- The Chicago White Sox didn't exactly have a good day. They were shutout by the Tigers, only had 4 hits the entire game and committed two errors.

- The Rays bullpen blew the teams lead against the Yankees in their loss.

- The entire Arizona Diamondbacks pitching staff against St. Louis. Arizona gave up 12 runs, 13 hits, eight walks, and only managed one strikeout.

- Rain in the Washington area. The Nationals-Phillies game was washed out for the day. I think the Nationals needed the rest thought.

- Giants closer Brian Wilson walked in the winning run against the Dodgers

- The San Diego Padres allowed the New York Mets to score twice on a wild pitch. I was speechless after watching this play.

Quote of the Night: "Everybody has the right to react the way they want and feel the way they want," said Jason Marquis

Marquis didn't exactly receive a warm welcome from the Chicago fans.

Video of the Night:
Remember Tony Batista? Tony Batista is more known for his crazy batting stance than for his actual play. Here is funny video of Tony Batista playing baseball on a Japanese team.
