Must List: Week 11

Not exactly the strongest slate of games this week (Musburger and Herbstreit are calling the Notre Dame/Boston College game!?!) but there are still some interesting games to watch this week from an offensive standpoint. There are also some potential upsets in the mix, I doubt they will happen, to also keep an eye on. Here's this week's must list.

Thursday, November 8th
Florida State at Virginia Tech, 7:30 (ESPN: Rece Davis, Jesse Palmer, David Pollack, Samantha Steele) This has been a rough year for Virginia Tech. They've lost to Pittsburgh and Cincinnati and were hammered in past weeks against Miami and Clemson. Despite this though I'm still going to keep an eye on this game because it's being played in Blacksburg and Florida State is due for another dubious loss. Also expect a Beamerball type of play in this game.

Saturday, November 10th
Northwestern at Michigan, Noon (ESPN: Dave Pasch, Brian Griese, Jenn Brown) The Big Ten is awful this year. Ohio State and Penn State are the leaders in the leaders division. One problem though, both of those teams are ineligible. And then you have the Legends division where you have good but not great teams and that leaves us this weekend with Northwestern and Michigan. If Nebraska loses this weekend, one of these teams will be tied in the Legends division. Yep the Big Ten is a grease fire this year.

Oregon State at Stanford, 3:00 (Fox: Gus Johnson, Charles Davis, Julie Alexandria) Interesting match-up from the standpoint that these teams contrast each other. Oregon State has the offense and Stanford as the defense. Expect a low scoring affair that will probably be decided by a late touchdown or field goal.

Texas A&M at Alabama, 3:30 (CBS: Verne Lundquist, Gary Danielson, Tracy Wolfson) This is probably the last chance a team has at beating Alabama. If LSU doesn't play prevent defense in the last minute of the game then we wouldn't be relying on Texas A&M to beat Alabama this week. I would love the Aggies to win this week not just to see Bama/Saban lose, but also because of the offense the Aggies run. Could you imagine the anger from Saban if his team loses to a bunch of pansies that run a hocus-pocus offense?

West Virginia at Oklahoma State, 3:30 (ABC/ESPN2: Dave Lamont, Kelly Stouffer) Remember when Geno Smith was a Heisman candidate? Unfortunately we don't reward the best player in college football anymore just the best player on the best team because Geno Smith should absolutely be in the Heisman contention. Is it his fault the West Virginia defense is horrible? Anyway I expect another West Virginia loss where their defense gives up 55 points again.

Kansas State at TCU, 7:00 (Fox: Craig Bolerjack, Joel Klatt, Petros Papadakis) I love Kansas State  and would like nothing more than see them playing in the national championship game. This is Kansas State though and I expect something awful will happen*. That awful appears to be whether or not Colin Klein can play this week. Klein suffered a concussion last week and is expected to play this week, but how will this affect him? Also TCU is one of those teams that is always lurking in the corner** waiting to screw over a undefeated team. I hope I'm wrong and Kansas State wins, but my gut feeling says they lose this week.

*Look up Ell Roberson and the 2004 Fiesta Bowl for further evidence.
**Remember last year's game against Boise State?

Mississippi State at LSU, 7:00 (ESPN: Brad Nessler, Todd Blackledge, Holly Rowe) Miss State was a fraud before the Bama game three weeks ago and their performance the past couple of weeks suggests just that. And now they face a pissed off LSU team coming off a heartbreaking loss. Enjoy another Independence bowl Mississippi State.

Oregon at California, 10:30 (ESPN: Joe Tessitore, Matt Millen, Samantha Steele) For the 2nd time in three years California won't be going to a bowl. Cal also has a graduation rate below 50% and worse than all the SEC teams. If Tedford doesn't get fired after this season he'll never will and Cal is making a huge mistake. Hopefully everyone in the administration watches Cal get hammered this week against Oregon just to see how bad this team has gotten.

Alcoholic Beverage of the Week, Four Roses Small Batch: I've admitted before that I'm not the biggest bourbon drinker. I prefer Canadian Whiskey. Four Roses Small Batch though is one of the most intriguing alcoholic beverages I've tasted in a while. This bourbon is brewed with four different whiskeys and this gives Four Roses the distinct four different tastes you have while drinking it. And the vanilla aftertaste is wonderful.

Recipe of the Week, Brining Turkey: Not so much of a recipe but more of a plan on how to cook your turkey for Thanksgiving. Turkey's need some sort of seasoning or stuffing because of how dry that can get when cooked. That's why I like brining my turkey before cooking. You allow the bird to soak in juices and flavor that makes the bird less dry and more tasteful.
